Free trombone-riffic tunes for outdoor music lovers this summer
The popular Summer Bands concerts returned last weekend and, for the first time, this year’s series will take place across two beautiful locations in Basingstoke.
The programme of concerts will run until Sunday 7 September with performances taking place between 3pm and 5pm. Starting in Eastrop before moving to the bandstand at War Memorial Park, the performances are completely free for audiences to enjoy.
| Date | Band | Location |
| Sunday 20 July | The Tadley Band | Eastrop Park |
| Sunday 27 July | The Hatted Horns | War Memorial Park |
| Sunday 10 August | Basingstoke Silver Band | War Memorial Park |
| Sunday 24 August | Sax and Trax | War Memorial Park |
| Sunday 7 September | Cove Brass | War Memorial Park |
Eastrop Park is a popular town centre park which has held green flag status for 25 years running. The River Loddon runs through the park and visitors can also watch wildlife on, below and beside the water from a dipping platform.
A short walk from the town, War Memorial Park is a historic Georgian park, has an attractive parkland landscape of mature trees and garden features and footpath access to the park on Hackwood Road, London Road and subways from Cranbourne and Black Dam.
Cabinet Member for Sports, Leisure and Culture Cllr Kerry Morrow said: “It’s brilliant that the Summer Bands programme has returned, this year to War Memorial in addition to Eastrop Park. It’s a great opportunity to enjoy two of our flagship parks while enjoying local brass and silver bands.
“The live music performances on offer are a great opportunity for people to pack a picnic and bring their families, a blanket and a deckchair to enjoy a wonderful afternoon of free music.”
The full programme of performances can be found on the council’s website at www.basingstoke.gov.uk/
