A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving after officers carried out a proactive stop in Basingstoke.

Officers were patrolling the Popley area when they noticed a white Ford Ka travelling at speed on Popley Way at around 12.10am on 24 September.

A traffic stop was initiated on Pershore Road, and officers searched the vehicle due to suspicious circumstances at the scene.

Suspected cannabis was located inside the car, and a drugs wipe was carried out – which came back as positive for cannabis.

A 19-year-old man from Basingstoke was arrested on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit and possessing a controlled drug of Class B.

He has since been released under investigation, to allow for further enquiries to be carried out.
