Children and families are already enjoying Bransbury Park’s new play area, created as part of the wider regeneration of the park.

The play area includes equipment and features for children of different ages and abilities and has been designed with input from Portsmouth Parent Voice, play specialists and landscape architects. Highlights include a basket swing, accessible trampoline, sensory planting and picnic benches, alongside a train-themed play structure featuring the original Bransbury Flyer plaque.

The play area forms part of the wider transformation of Bransbury Park, where a new hub is being created bringing together sports, swimming and healthcare facilities for local residents. Plans include a new leisure centre with a swimming pool, gym, fitness studios and GP surgery.

Councillor Steve Pitt, Leader of Portsmouth City Council, said: “It’s fantastic to see so many families already making use of the new play area.

“The train-themed equipment celebrates both the much-loved Bransbury Flyer and the Bransbury Park Miniature Railway, which remains a favourite attraction for local families. It’s a great way of connecting the park’s past and present while creating something new for future generations to enjoy.

“I’d also like to thank the council officers, local families and partners who helped shape the design and bring the project to life. Their hard work has helped create a fantastic space that is fun, inclusive and welcoming.

“This is another important milestone in our wider investment in Bransbury Park and the city’s sports and leisure facilities.”

The play area was delivered by Portsmouth-based contractor Reds Builders on behalf of Portsmouth City Council.

“It’s been great to be involved in a project that combines imaginative play, accessibility and quality landscaping, and we’re delighted to see local people already making the most of the space.”

Alongside the new play equipment, the project includes landscaping and planting designed to support biodiversity and create a welcoming environment for children, families and wildlife. A small number of finishing touches will be completed over the coming weeks, with additional planting planned for later this year.
