Bookings now open for Woking Leisure Centre’s 50th anniversary community fun day – Sunday 14 June

Bookings are now open for Woking Leisure Centre’s 50th anniversary community fun day on Sunday 14 June, from 10am to 4pm.

The special event will feature appearances from Team GB sprinter and television personality Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, alongside a wide range of activities and taster sessions for all ages and abilities.

Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the centre’s recently completed £1.2 million refurbishment, which includes a fully upgraded gym, a dedicated Reformer studio and a refurbished group cycling studio.

Activities taking place throughout the day include free gym and group exercise classes, swimming taster sessions, Laser Tag and Air X sessions, complimentary personal training sessions, and face painting.

Managed by Everyone Active in partnership with Woking Borough Council, Woking Leisure Centre has been at the heart of the local community since opening in 1976.

Over the past five decades, it is estimated to have welcomed between 12.5 and 15 million visits, with around 450,000 visits now recorded annually.

Today, more than 8,500 people use the facility each week, taking part in activities ranging from gym workouts and group exercise classes to swimming lessons, health programmes and community sport.

The centre continues to play an important role in supporting local health and wellbeing, working in partnership with schools, clubs and community organisations. Currently, the centre works with 22 primary schools, one pupil referral unit, one SEN school and 17 local sports clubs.

Following its recent refurbishment, the centre now offers more than 70 group exercise classes each week, including popular sessions such as Yoga, Pilates and Zumba.

Alongside helping people stay active, the centre is delivering a positive impact across the community. Since December 2025, Everyone Active’s programmes at the centre have generated more than £62,000 in social value savings to the NHS, while GP referral sessions have recorded more than 1,600 attendances since January 2026.

The centre is also home to The Woking Wurlitzer, a historic theatre organ originally installed at the Granada Welling cinema in 1937 before finding its home at Woking Leisure Centre in 1995. Since then, it has been expanded and is now recognised as one of the finest preserved theatre organs in the UK.

Visitors are encouraged to book their free places in advance.
