Borrow, learn and discover as Dorset Libraries back Green Libraries Week
Residents are being encouraged to visit their local library this October and join a national campaign promoting climate awareness.
From 21 to 28 October, Dorset Libraries will take part in Green Libraries Week 2026.
This year’s theme, ‘Climate Facts for a Greener Future’, focuses on helping people navigate misinformation and find reliable information about climate change and the environment.
The campaign comes after a year that has seen flooding and extreme weather affect communities in Dorset and across the UK, bringing renewed focus to the importance of accessible, evidence-based information and practical action.
Councillor Ben Wilson, the Cabinet Member for Transformation, Customer and Workforce said: “I’m delighted to support Green Libraries Week 2026 and celebrate the important role our libraries play in helping people access trusted, reliable information.
“This year’s theme, ‘Climate Facts for a Greener Future’, feels particularly relevant following a year that has seen flooding and extreme heat affect communities across the UK and here in Dorset.
“Libraries are trusted places where people can learn, explore ideas and discover practical ways to make a difference.
“I would encourage everyone to visit their local library during Green Libraries Week and discover the wealth of resources and support available.”
Throughout the week, Dorset Libraries will showcase resources, information and activities designed to help people learn more.
Lots of events and activities will be taking place during the week, and throughout October half term.

In addition, Dorset Libraries is working with Nature Recovery Dorset to develop a Nature Recovery Facts Challenge, helping people discover more about Dorset’s wildlife, habitats and biodiversity.
The week will also highlight the many ways libraries help reduce consumption through borrowing rather than buying and offer a wide range of free digital resources that can be accessed from home or on the move.
