Buckinghamshire residents set to benefit from 18 new road safety improvements
Residents in communities most affected by HS2 construction are set to benefit from 18 new road safety improvement schemes as work starts across Buckinghamshire.
The projects will make it safer and easier for people to travel around their local area through a range of improvements including new pedestrian crossings, traffic calming measures, improved pavements, clearer signage and parking restrictions.
The 18 community-focused projects are being delivered through the remaining £1.3 million of funding from the third phase of the HS2 Road Safety Fund and are designed to help address the impacts of increased traffic associated with HS2 construction activity.
Work has now started on the schemes following the completion of design work, surveys, consultation and procurement. Most are expected to be completed by spring 2027.
Thomas Broom, Buckinghamshire Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “We know many communities across Buckinghamshire continue to be impacted by HS2 construction work, so it’s good to see work now starting on another package of improvements that will make local roads safer and more accessible for residents.
“These schemes put the needs of our residents first. From new pedestrian crossings and traffic calming measures to pavement improvements and clearer signage, they respond directly to the challenges local communities are experiencing and will help make journeys safer and easier.
“This £1.3 million investment is part of almost £4 million secured for Buckinghamshire to support communities most affected by HS2 construction activity. It will deliver lasting benefits for residents long after the construction work has finished.”
The latest projects build on a series of road safety improvements already delivered through the fund and form part of Buckinghamshire Council’s ongoing work to support communities affected by HS2 construction activity.
