Community groups invited to apply for Isle of Wight family support grants

Community groups, charities and organisations with ideas for new activities that support Island families are being encouraged to apply for funding through the Isle of Wight Council’s Early Help Community Capacity Grant Scheme.

Grants of up to £5,000 are available to help create new groups, clubs and activities that improve the wellbeing of children, young people, parents and carers across the Isle of Wight.

The funding is designed to build community capacity and support positive outcomes for local families, with a particular focus on emotional resilience, mental health and wellbeing.

Applications must also demonstrate a clear community need, offer value for money and show how the activity can be sustained in the longer term.

This year’s funding priorities include support for perinatal mental health, activities for children aged five to 11, projects for young people aged 12 and over, targeted youth support delivered in community settings, and initiatives that support young carers.

The scheme is open to voluntary, community and third sector organisations, as well as schools running inclusive activities outside school hours that are open to families from across the Island.

Importantly, funding is only available for new groups, clubs or activities that have not yet started.

Councillor Andrew Garratt, vice-chair of the council’s children’s services, education and skills committee, said: “Strong communities play a vital role in helping children, young people and families to thrive.

“These grants provide an excellent opportunity for local organisations and community groups to turn great ideas into reality and create lasting support networks for Island residents.

“We know there is a huge amount of passion, creativity and expertise within our communities, and we would encourage anyone with an idea that could make a positive difference to come forward and apply.”

To help applicants develop their proposals, the council is holding two support sessions at County Hall in Newport:

  • Saturday, 17 October, 11.30am to 12.30pm
  • Wednesday, 21 October, 5pm to 6pm

Anyone wishing to attend should email earlyhelpgrant@iow.gov.uk or call 01983 823169 to book a place.

Applications must be submitted by 12 noon on 26 October 2026.
