Major plans to unlock next phase of growth at Daedalus

Fareham Borough Council is unveiling ambitious plans to unlock the next phase of development at Daedalus, creating the potential for hundreds of new jobs.

Planning applications are being submitted for the infrastructure needed to support development at Swordfish Business Park, including new roads, power, drainage and water services, alongside changes to the taxiway layout at Solent Airport.

The proposals are the latest step in the Council’s long-term vision for Daedalus to become a premier location for aviation, aerospace engineering and advanced manufacturing, creating skilled employment opportunities for local people and supported by a vibrant and sustainable airport.

Development to date has largely focused on Faraday Business Park and the Skills and Innovation Quarter. Swordfish, on the western side of Daedalus, represents the next major opportunity for employment space.

Daedalus is already a significant employment hub, and the proposals will complement the successful developments delivered elsewhere across the Enterprise Zone. Around 68,000 sqm of employment floorspace has been completed or is under construction. Once all committed developments are complete, the site is expected to support more than 900 jobs.  Around 80 businesses currently operate from Daedalus.

Councillor Simon Martin, Leader of Fareham Borough Council, said: “Daedalus has come a long way since the Council first set out its vision for the site, and Swordfish represents an important next step.

“These plans will enable us to open up more land for businesses, attract further investment and create skilled jobs, while ensuring Solent Airport remains an important part of Daedalus.

“We want to build on what has already been achieved and ensure Daedalus continues to grow as one of Fareham’s most important employment locations.”

A public engagement event on the Swordfish proposals was held on 21 July 2026. There will be a further opportunity for people to comment once the planning applications have been submitted.
