Man arrested following racially aggravated public order and assault incident in Portsmouth
A man has been arrested as part of our investigation into a racially aggravated public order and assault incident in Portsmouth.
We received reports that just after 11pm on Sunday 27 September, a man had been throwing beer cans and trying to hit people on Twyford Avenue.
A 32-year-old man was assaulted during the incident and was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries to his head and arm. He has since been discharged.
As part of our investigation, officers have now arrested a 37-year-old man from Portsmouth on suspicion of the following offences:
- Attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent to do grievous bodily harm
- Racially / religiously aggravated fear / provocation of violence by words / writing / behaviour
He has been bailed with conditions until 7 January whilst enquiries continue.
