Man jailed for three years for assaulting woman in Tadley
A man has been jailed for three years after he stamped on his then-partner’s back and broke her hand during an assault in Tadley.
Michael Skyrme, 67, of Park Prewett Road, Basingstoke, attacked the woman at her home address. The victim also suffered injuries to her face and wrist following the incident in August 2024.
Officers attended the scene and located Skyrme nearby a few minutes later. He was arrested and charged with assaulting a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm.
He pleaded guilty and was jailed for three years at Winchester Crown Court on Thursday 22 October. Skyrme was also given a five-year restraining order, banning him from contacting the woman.
Police Staff Investigator Daniel Stockley, from Basingstoke CID, said: “This was a terrifying incident for the victim, who was attacked by Skyrme when inside her own home.
“His behaviour was shocking and deplorable, and I want to make it clear that nobody – whether that be a woman, a man or a child – should ever be subjected to domestic abuse.
“The victim demonstrated remarkable courage and resilience in placing her trust in the police and criminal justice system. Through her bravery, justice has been achieved.
“This sentence sends a clear message that domestic abuse in any form will not be tolerated within our communities. Those who seek to inflict harm, fear and misery upon others will be relentlessly pursued and brought before the courts.
“To anyone experiencing domestic abuse, our message is simple: you will be listened to, you will be believed, and we will do everything within our power to protect you.”
