Officer sacked over racist and discriminatory remarks
An officer has been dismissed for making racist and discriminatory comments to a colleague.
Police Constable Saqib Kazmi, attached to the Met’s East Area Command Unit, appeared before a misconduct panel between Monday, 18 May, and Thursday, 21 May.
The panel found that PC Kazmi breached the standards of professional behaviour, and that his actions amounted to gross misconduct.
The panel found that, between 2023 and 2024, PC Kazmi made a number of discriminatory statements in Urdu to another officer. These included racist, misogynistic and homophobic remarks.
After these statements were reported in 2024, PC Kazmi was suspended.
Chief Superintendent Dan Card, who leads policing in the local area, said: “PC Kazmi’s remarks were disgraceful and fell well short of our high standards of conduct.
“This result should demonstrate our commitment to rooting out this sort of behaviour, which is wholly unacceptable and has no place in the Met.”
PC Kazmi will be placed on the barred list held by the College of Policing. Those appearing on the list cannot be employed by the police, and a number of other policing bodies.
