Warm Welcome returns for the colder months
All of Southampton’s libraries are again registered as warm spaces as part of the wider, nationwide initiative by providing warm, safe spaces and activities in local communities. Over 800 activities are planned until the end of 2027.
This winter, libraries will host activities aimed at adults, families and children. During each activity there will also be an opportunity to enjoy a free hot drink and snack. Activities on offer vary from arts and crafts, early years activities, reading groups, and games clubs – open to a range of ages with no pre-booking. Support sessions will also be available, from digital and tech support to Citizens Advice appointments.

Councillor Toqeer Kataria, Cabinet Member for Communities, Safety and Leisure said: “Having somewhere warm to go, someone to talk to and something to get involved in can make a real difference during the colder months. That is why it is so good to see the return of Warm Welcome, which continues to support people in Southampton and beyond each year. Our library teams and volunteers are at the heart of this initiative, creating safe, welcoming spaces where people of all ages can find company, enjoy activities and access practical help. From games, reading groups and arts and crafts to advice on finding work, keeping homes healthy and using technology, there is a wide range of support on offer. I would encourage residents to visit their local library, see what is happening and make the most of everything available.”
