Man jailed after approaching schoolgirl in breach of Sexual Harm Prevention Order
A man has been sentenced to two years in prison for breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
Jamie Fowler, 32, of Locking, North Somerset, was sentenced at Swindon Crown Court on October 13 after previously pleading guilty.
One of the restrictions imposed by the SHPO prohibits him from making contact with, or approaching any female under the age of 16 years.
On 15 July, 2025, Fowler drove to Trowbridge where he has approached a 15-year-old female student, walking home from school. This has caused the female to make a distressed call to her foster mum to come and collect her immediately, as she was frightened about what might happen next.
Local Crime Investigator Dalton said: “Fowler has been subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for more than a decade and is fully aware of the restrictions placed upon him.
“These conditions exist to protect young people, yet he chose to deliberately disregard them.
“On this occasion, he made a sustained effort to engage a 15-year-old girl in conversation, turning his vehicle around multiple times to approach her. He then made inappropriate and sexualised comments about her appearance, causing her considerable fear and distress.
“No young person should feel unsafe while walking home from school. The impact of Fowler’s actions on the victim has been significant, and I hope today’s sentence provides her with some reassurance that his behaviour has been recognised for the seriousness that it deserves.
“I would like to commend the victim for the courage and maturity she has shown throughout this investigation. Reporting incidents of this nature can be incredibly daunting, but her actions have helped ensure a dangerous individual has been brought before the courts.”
Fowler has been put on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years, will be included in the Children’s Barred List or Adults’ Barred List and ordered to pay a surcharge of £187.
