A drug dealer has been jailed for more than five years after officers located a bag which contained more than 150 wraps of crack cocaine and heroin in Basingstoke.

Plain-clothed officers were on Worting Road when they spotted suspected drug-related activity at around 10.30am on Thursday 9 April.

Cain Dorkin, 33, of Lime Tree Way, Chineham, tried to evade police by attempting to flee on a black pushbike but was detained nearby on Queen’s Road.

Following a search, officers located 153 wraps of crack cocaine and heroin inside a bag and arrested him at the scene. Officers also carried out a search at an address in Chineham and located a baton which was seized.

Dorkin pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of crack cocaine and heroin and possessing an offensive weapon in a private place. He was jailed for a total of 67 months at Winchester Crown Court on Wednesday 13 May.

Detective Constable Mel Hardman, from CID North, said: “This outcome is a result of great proactive policing, and I’m pleased to say that another drug dealer has been taken off our streets.

“I hope this sentence highlights that our officers will continue to do everything in their power to ensure Basingstoke is not targeted by drug networks.

“We know that drug supply causes harm and misery to our communities and is linked to acquisitive crime, as well as some of the most serious violence we see.

“We are determined to keep relentlessly pursuing criminals to reduce the negative impact they have on the local community, making it safe for everyone.”
