People across Portsmouth are being invited to take part in a new survey to help shape the future of the city’s parks, seafront, countryside and other open spaces.

The Open Places Survey aims to build a better understanding of how residents use outdoor places, what they enjoy about them, and what may prevent people from using them more often. The findings will help inform future planning and investment in Portsmouth’s green and natural spaces.

The survey is part of Nature Positive Portsmouth, a programme supported through National Lottery Heritage Fund funding via the Nature Towns and Cities programme. The research will contribute to the development of a city-wide green infrastructure strategy and help identify future priorities for investment across the city.

Portsmouth City Council is keen to hear from as many people as possible, including residents who regularly visit open spaces and those who may face barriers to accessing them. Feedback from people of all ages and backgrounds will help create a clearer picture of how outdoor places are used across Portsmouth.

Cllr Kimberly Barrett, Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Greening the City at Portsmouth City Council, said:

“Outdoor places are an important part of everyday life in Portsmouth, whether that’s spending time in our parks, visiting the seafront, walking in our countryside areas or simply enjoying local green spaces.

“We want to hear from as many people as possible about how they use these places and what might stop them from using them more. The feedback we receive will help build a stronger evidence base to support future planning and investment, ensuring that Portsmouth’s outdoor spaces continue to meet the needs of residents now and in the future.”

The survey takes around 10 minutes to complete.
