A 22-year-old man has been jailed for three years after he admitted stabbing a man that he knew twice leaving him with serious injuries in Park Gate last November.

Officers were called just after 6:00pm on Saturday 15 November 2025 after the 20-year-old man had been stabbed on Hunts Pond Road. He was taken to hospital, where he was treated for two stab wounds to his abdomen. He was subsequently discharged to recover at home.

The knife was located nearby and a short-time later Luke Foreman of no fixed address identified himself to officers in the area who arrested him.

As part of our investigation into this serious assault, an incident earlier in the day where alcohol was taken from Morrisons on Hunts Pond Road was also linked to Foreman, who was subsequently charged with a number of offences.

On Thursday 30 July 2026 at Portsmouth Crown Court Foreman was sentenced to a combined total of three years in prison after he had previously admitted causing grievous bodily harm and possession of a knife in a public place in relation to the stabbing and shoplifting and common assault in relation to the theft of alcohol.

DC Ethan Beesley, of the Eastern Criminal Investigation Department said, “This was an appalling act of violence, which could have cost a man his life. This court result underlines that we will not tolerate knife crime in our local communities. There are serious consequences for everyone involved in crimes like this, whether you are a victim or you have chosen to carry a knife. It’s important that we also highlight that tackling serious violence such as this, robustly dealing with offenders and working in partnership to prevent offending remains a priority for our officers.

“Anyone found to have been involved in offending of this nature will be pursued and brought before the courts. I hope that bringing Foreman to justice helps the man that he assaulted to move forward in the knowledge that he has been sent to prison.

“This sentence sends a strong message to anyone who chooses to carry a knife or engage in violence of this nature that we will not accept this behaviour. Your actions may have devastating consequences for others, as well as for yourself. I would strongly encourage anyone considering carrying a knife to think about their choices, before they make a serious mistake that they can’t undo.”
