Six arrested in series of warrants in Salford in crackdown on drugs

Thursday 20 August, officers from the Salford Neighbourhoods Policing Team (NPT), alongside the Challenger unit and our Tactical Aid Unit (TAU) executed five simultaneous warrants at addresses; four on Hopwood Street, Pendlebury, and one at Castle Way, Clifton.

It comes after several weeks of investigative work carried out by Salford neighbourhood officers into a suspected drugs line believed to be operating in the local area and concerned in the supply of class A drugs including heroin and crack cocaine.

After forced entry into the addresses, six men were arrested on suspicion of various offences including possession of a class A substance, possession with intent to supply a class A substance, burglary, possession of an offensive weapon and wanted on failure to appear at court.

As teams continued to search all properties throughout the wet and dreary morning, they recovered class A drugs suspected to be heroin and cocaine, and two suspected stolen mountain bikes worth around £1,000 each.

Neighbourhood Chief Inspector Lee Gridley, for GMP’s Salford District, said: “I am really pleased with this morning’s result after several weeks of intelligence gathering by the team.

“We now have six individuals in custody for questioning, and a drugs line has been disrupted preventing harmful drugs from reaching the streets and vulnerable people being exploited.

“Criminals involved in drug supply and organised crime undermine our communities and bring fear and misery to them. Our communities deserve better. We will take relentless and robust action against criminals to ensure they are brought to justice.

“We rely on information from the public. If you are concerned about suspicious activity in your area, I urge you to reach out and report it. You can do so by calling police on 101 or online via the LiveChat function at gmp.police.uk.

“Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
